Our goal is to spread the philosophy of Objectivism throughout the culture of the Southeastern region of the United States.
What is Objectivism?
Objectivism is the philosophy of novelist Ayn Rand. She saw Man – individual Man as a (potentially) heroic being with Man's life as his standard of value and his own happiness as his goal. In other words, you should seek to achieve your own happiness on this Earth in your lifetime by placing your own life as the ultimate value underlying every other value you choose and decision you make.
It is not the purpose of this website to convert others to Objectivism through content found here. This website is a working space for already committed Objectivists to collaborate their efforts in spreading the philosophy. Those not yet so committed should read Ayn Rand’s novels, Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead. Read Leonard Peikoff’s Objectivism: the Philosophy of Ayn Rand. for a non-fiction exposition of the philosophy. Also, go to the website of the Ayn Rand Institute.
This does not mean that neo-phytes are not welcome, quite the contrary. Please logon and let us know about you. Of course, we will want to know you a bit before we invite you to our homes for social functions so please don’t be offended if that doesn’t happen immediately.
Who are we?
The administrators of this site are long term Objectivists committed to the spread of the philosophy. We hope to save the world from another dark age as Western culture is rapidly decaying under the influence of its dominant morality of altruism.
Our members are mostly located along the I85 corridor with leadership located in Greenville, SC. But we have members as far away as Arkansas and Naples, Florida.
Methods:
- Supporting Objectivism in academia
- Political activism
- Community outreach
- Providing mutual support to Objectivists.
Objectivism in Academia
Support BB&T/Anthem/ARI programs in the Southeast
Attend their events. Volunteer to provide bodies to direct traffic, do handouts, what ever they need. More importantly talk -- to everyone you know about their activities especially those who might make monetary contributions. Contribute $$ yourself if you can do so without sacrifice. Convince others to make contributions.
Our website needs to have a calendar which announces to all of us these events.
Student Groups
Support student groups at colleges in your locality in any way needed. Keep NSO leadership advised as to activity in your area.
Help us keep their events on our calendar
Help distribute The Undercurrent, an Objectivist student newspaper.
Political activism
Letters to the Editor:
We have on-line files of past successful LTEs feel free to plagiarize when a similar issue arises in your area.
Get help with writing and editing.
We give ourselves fancy titles such as Senior Writer for NSO some such.
Hold public events
Invite Objectivist speakers to address issues relevant to our region and invite the general public. For example, pick some hot topic in legal philosophy and invite Adam Mossof or Amy Peikoff to come speak
Blog
We need to add a public blog whenever we want to highlight our stand on a particular issue.
Community Outreach
A great idea recently submitted is to start Atlas Shrugged or Fountainhead book discussion groups at your local library.
Social interaction:
Continue our social gatherings. Objectivists need emotional recharging since we live in an alien culture. It is valuable to us to meet with each other as an end in itself -- a venue in which our jokes are understood and we can relax and be ourselves. We have been having a Christmas party and pool party every year. This will continue and can even increase if others want to make the effort to be hosts.
Internal discussion
We have a forum in which we can hash out our principles and strategies for dealing with a particular issue of the day.
Members should scan their daily paper for issues.
